Invasion of the Hoons

May 27, 2007

Sunday evenings are normally pretty peaceful and quiet in my parents place. They live in a lovely cul-de-sac with a fantastic view of the Derwent river. So imagine my surprise when that peace was shattered last night by the sound of cars screeching their tyres in the driveway. Apparently a pair of hoons had chosen my parents road as a place to practice their hot-dogging(sic?). I was even more surprised when one of the hoons ran from the car into the house next door.

The place next to ours is a housing commission home. Up til’ now they’ve always been rather nice neighbours with a few minor family problems that they’ve always been able to sort out. Unfortunately the two boys next door are entering their teenage years, and seem to attract some pretty wild and unsavoury friends to our peaceful neighbourhood. Only a few nights ago, we heard someone next door banging on our fence, screaming and swearing and obviously inebriated. For everyone’s sake, I hope things don’t escalate further.
